The template is the vehicle bill of sale with motorcycle details. This site's vehicle state pages, listed on the vehicle bill of sale page, are written for selling a car, truck or van, not for selling motorcycles.

The odometer lines

The template has the same odometer lines as the vehicle bill of sale: the reading, and one of the three statements 49 CFR 580.5 uses (the actual mileage, a reading that exceeds the odometer's mechanical limits, or a reading that is not the actual mileage). The odometer disclosure statement page quotes parts of the federal rule, each with its section.

The odometer lines on this template are the buyer's and seller's own record of the reading, and they do not replace the disclosure the federal rule or the state asks for. The vehicle bill of sale explains the federal rule and its exemptions.

What to write about the motorcycle

The template has a line for each of these, so the motorcycle can be told apart from any other.

  • Year, make and model
  • Engine size in cc, and color
  • VIN
  • License plate number and title number
  • The odometer reading and one of the three odometer statements
  • Its condition, as the seller describes it

Frequently asked questions

Is a motorcycle bill of sale different from a car bill of sale?

The fields are the same kind: the parties, the motorcycle, the odometer and the sale. This template names the motorcycle, and where the vehicle template has a line for body type and color, it has one for engine size and color. The vehicle bill of sale is the template for a car, truck or van.

Does the motorcycle template have a notary section?

No. Below the lines for the motorcycle and its odometer reading, the template ends with the Sale part and the signature lines. This page does not cover state rules for motorcycles.

Is there a template for a dirt bike or a moped?

Yes. A dirt bike and a moped or scooter each have their own template. The dirt bike template has a line for an odometer or hour meter reading, and the moped template a line for the engine size in cc, or that it is electric.
